Final National Bat Survey stats 25/26!
Thank you for helping make bat conservation possible!
The 2025–2026 National Bat Survey season brought together communities across Aotearoa in a shared effort to better understand and protect our native bats. Participants deployed detectors, explored local environments, discovered bat activity, and contributed valuable ecological data while gaining hands-on experience in conservation and monitoring. Throughout the season, more than 2 million acoustic files were processed through the Bat Pack and our detectors, transforming recordings into meaningful insights at a national scale. Beyond the data, the survey inspired curiosity, strengthened connections with nature, and empowered more people to play an active role in conservation.
Funded Project - Echoes Around Te Mata
This season, we launched our first local project as part of the National Bat Survey at Te Mata Peak, in collaboration with Te Mata Park, Cape Sanctuary, and Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay.
Together with local participants from across the region, Demeter Bat Detectors were deployed throughout the season to help build a better understanding of bat activity in and around Te Mata Peak. Whilst registrations to participate have now closed, the project continues through ongoing monitoring, data processing and the generation of insights that contribute to bat conservation in Aotearoa. Community participation has been central to this project, helping turn local curiosity into meaningful conservation action. To everyone who has helped build a better picture of our pekapeka through this project, thank you!
